From the mouths of babes, part 3

Recently I did a huge spring cleaning of our file cabinet. It was overflowing and there was way too much junk bursting out of the seams. You see, both J and I tend to save paperwork. We have a hard time shredding stuff. I'm not sure why.

Anyway, I overhauled the file cabinet, and as I was going through stuff, I found a paper that I have kept for a few years.

When I first started teaching, I was offered the chance to go to Arizona to help score the 10th grade writing WASL. It was an interesting process, but at times, it was mindnumbingly dull. There were a few quotes, though, in kids' essays that were worth remembering. I'll share my favorites with you over the next week or two.

Here's the first one: "You only get out of life what you put in….you know what they say: Life is like one big change machine at the arcade." (Anonymous 10th grader from five or six years ago.)

Now if that doesn't stop to make you think, I don't know what does. As the queen of mixed metaphors, there's just something about this quote that makes me smile.

That is another great quote! Makes you wonder what these kids grow up to be, ya know?
